“We are the inheritors of a deep-rooted legacy”
Speaking at the presentation ceremony of Culture and Tourism Ministry Special Awards, President Erdoğan said: “It is by no means a coincidence that our mosques, masjids and architectural structures are embellished with works of art. We are the inheritors of a deep-rooted legacy, from traditional arts to architecture, and music to poetry and literature.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the presentation ceremony of the Culture and Tourism Ministry Special Awards in Ankara.
President Erdoğan said: “Every piece created by artists, every product produced by craftsmen is actually a summary, form and result of a thousands-year-old history, culture, tradition, space and of course of the geography which has been lived in. In this sense, it is by no means a coincidence that our mosques, masjids and architectural structures are embellished with works of art. We are the inheritors of a deep-rooted legacy, from traditional arts to architecture, and music to poetry and literature.
Underscoring that Türkiye, with its 32 cultural values in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists, ranks 2nd among the 185 countries, President Erdoğan stated: “Currently, we have 368 cultural values in our national inventory of intangible cultural heritage, and 1,707 at local level. These are important figures since they demonstrate the richness of our cultural heritage.”
Further stressing that they meticulously work to preserve their culture and heritage, keep them alive and pass them on to next generations, and that they do not exploit the issue, President Erdoğan added: “On the contrary, being aware of the importance of the issue, we make multidimensional efforts in every area. We both preserve and reinvigorate our cultural assets, from archaeological excavations to restoration activities, and from our Night Museums project to anti-smuggling fight.”
