President Erdoğan spoke at a joint press conference with Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze
Holding a joint press conference with Prime Minister Kobakhidze of Georgia, President Erdoğan noted that they had fruitful talks, and said: “I reaffirmed Türkiye’s strong support for Georgia’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, stability and welfare. I also highlighted that we will continue to support Georgia’s efforts for integration with Euro-Atlantic institutions.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze of Georgia held a joint press conference following their bilateral meeting at the Presidential Complex.
Referring to the heinous attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico of the friendly and allied Slovakia, President Erdoğan said: “We will continue to stand up against any action that threatens our region's peace, stability, and security.”
“I REAFFIRMED TÜRKİYE’S STRONG SUPPORT FOR GEORGIA’S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY”
Describing his meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze as productive, President Erdoğan said: “We had fruitful talks with Mr. Prime Minister as two neighbors and strategic partners. I reaffirmed Türkiye’s strong support for Georgia’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, stability and welfare. I also highlighted that we will continue to support Georgia’s efforts for integration with Euro-Atlantic institutions. Mr. Prime Minister shared his views and opinions on the domestic political situation in Georgia. As Türkiye, we hope the developments may end in such a manner as to benefit the Georgian people.”
“REGIONAL COOPERATION PROJECTS CONSTITUTE ONE OF THE MAIN PILLARS OF THE TÜRKİYE-GEORGIA RELATIONS”
The bilateral trade volume between Türkiye and Georgia reached $3 billion last year, noted the President, and continued as follows: “During our talks, we focused on $5 billion as the new target. We believe that we will reach this figure swiftly through new business opportunities our shared potential enables us to forge. Regional cooperation projects constitute one of the main pillars of the Türkiye-Georgia relations. We continue our work in order to ensure that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which is the backbone of the Middle Corridor that revitalizes the Historical Silk Road through rails, becomes functional again with its full capacity. We reaffirmed our will to cooperate on other transportation and energy projects, as well. I conveyed it to Mr. Prime Minister that we stand ready to lend support to Georgia in major infrastructure projects such as airports, ports and roads, as well as the production and transfer of renewable energy.”
“WE DELIBERATED ON STEPS THAT WILL MAKE OUR FIGHT AGAINST TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS MORE EFFECTIVE”
Pointing out that cooperation in the fight against terrorist organizations was also on the agenda of their meeting, President Erdoğan said: “We reviewed our relations in security cooperation during our talks. We deliberated on steps that will make our fight against terrorist organizations and organized crime networks, particularly FETO and PKK, more effective. We are determined to maintain our fight against these illegitimate formations that threaten our citizens’ peace and even lives both at home and abroad.”
“ALL OF HUMANKIND MUST SUPPORT THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE'S STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM”
Noting that current regional and global issues were also on the agenda of the meeting with Mr. Prime Minister, President Erdoğan said their meeting addressed the atrocities in Gaza and the international community’s responsibilities on this issue.
Underlining that all of humankind must support the Palestinian people's struggle for freedom, for which they have paid a hefty price, through law and diplomacy, President Erdoğan stated that the resolution the United Nations General Assembly adopted on May 10 reflects the position taken by the international community, and he urged the countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to recognize it.
“AZERBAIJAN-ARMENIA PEACE AGREEMENT WOULD PRESENT A HISTORIC OPPORTUNITY FOR THE REGION’S FUTURE”
President Erdoğan went onto say: “We exchanged views on the Russia-Ukraine war, as well. I reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. We once again highlighted the importance of peace, tranquility and stability in the South Caucasus, and reiterated our determination to work to this end. I also expressed to the esteemed Prime Minister my opinion that a peace agreement to be signed by Azerbaijan and Armenia would present a historic opportunity for the future of the region.”
